New to commissioning?
Start with target: streaming avatar types, then model types. You are not expected to know VRChat, VRM, or rigging jargon on day one.

You are not wrong for not knowing this. The industry shows you the finished character — artists deal with topology, rigs, UVs, file formats, licenses, and platform rules underneath it.
Clients usually describe the visible result: "I want a VTuber model," "make it game-ready," "just swap the head," "I already have a base." Creators hear the hidden requirements: rig type, poly budget, export format, source handoff, commercial license, origin chain, and whether the mesh was built for that target at all.
This cluster exists to slow that down before money or time gets wasted. Think of it like a machined part: the finished part is what you see; the blueprint, tolerances, and process are what make it actually work.
Write answers down — vague DMs become expensive guesswork.

Three guides are live now — Frankenstein edits, "I have a base," and why "small edit" lies. Read in that order if you are mid-project.
Run the scope checker before you message an artist — or jump ahead in the full path when more guides ship.

Work through the guides step by step. Each page catches one class of requirement people forget before quoting. Academy deep dives in the path are optional follow-ups, not prerequisites.
Start with these three. More guides in this cluster are still in progress — listed below until they ship.
Stitched parts that work in preview and break on edit — patch vs replace, plus origin and license risk.
I have a base is not one situation — license, editable source, and platform fit decide tweak vs rebuild.
Small is not a scope word — name systems touched (mesh, UVs, rig, materials) and what must still work after.
What must the asset do, and where must it work? Streaming, game, print, animation, and resale are different products.
PNG, Live2D, VRoid, custom 3D, VRChat — what each is and is not.
Render, game, print, streaming, and resale are not the same deliverable.
Purpose categories, delivery formats, and what end users actually experience.
Coming soonEngine, platform, poly budget, and format — or the words are useless.
Coming soonPose change, mocap clip, Live2D rig, and in-engine gameplay sets are different scoped deliverables.
An export is not the same as editable source. "Full rights" is not one license. Owning a file does not mean you can sell it.
Final export vs editable source vs team-ready handoff.
Personal, commercial, streaming, merch, resale — define use in writing.
Resale needs clean assets, licenses, previews, and buyer support.
Stitched models, marketplace bases, vague "small edits," and missing source files often hide days of rebuild work. AI in the brief → Academy pack, not this path.
Mood boards inform direction — deliverables, views, platform targets, and rights still need writing.
Use the scope checker before you message an artist. Creator economy guides pick up after requirements are clear.
